Farmer’s market picks
My favorite Saturday morning activity when the weather starts to feel nice is going to our local farmer’s market. Here in Atlanta, Georgia, we love Peachtree Road’s. From farm fresh vegetables to dog treats and our favorite bread, you cannot go wrong.
Whether or not you live in Atlanta finding a farmer’s market near you has so many benefits. You are supporting local! Always the best. You are also consuming organic foods straight from the source. They have been picked and come straight from the farm, being on the truck for no time at all. This guarantees optimal freshness in your food! It is also likely that your fruits and vegetables from your local farm are also cheaper than what you get at the grocery store. Sounds like the biggest win-win to me!
Here are my go to’s for all of my farmer’s market visits. I will say my specifics for those of you in Atlanta or who may be visiting as well!
Fresh bread (we love the asiago cheese and sourdough from TGM Bread)
Leafy greens available, fresh arugula + kale always if possible (Rogers Greens and Roots is our go-to)
A new vegetable I have not tried before (rainbow chard for example) It is always fun to try new recipes :)
Flowers (McMullan Family Farm is our go-to)
Organic dog treats (Barkful or Taj Ma-Hound Bakery)
Spicy guacamole and homemade tortilla chips (Alligator Pear Foods)
Apples if in season (Beech Creek Orchards)
Organic nut butters (Georgia Grinders is our favorite)
Fresh almond milk latte to have as we browse
Cold-pressed juices and milks (Bamboo Juices is our favorite)
Any special mustard, sauces, or condiments I may need. (Pulp Hot Sauce)
One thing new and special each time
Breakfast pastries or breakfast crepes for a treat as we walk around (Crepe Masters or Little Tart Bakeshop)
I honestly can get myself in trouble at the market because everything looks so amazing! If you make it a weekly trip you can make lists of what you need for your week + one treat and take note of things you may want to try next time. I hope this inspires you guys to check out your local farmers markets! Go with your friends or with your family and bring your pup. It is such a fun, energizing way to start your weekend off strong.
Oh yes, get up and get there early. Things go quickly! Especially the best flowers ;) Enjoy!!!
